(TO MY LOVE) - BY BERNADO MOSQUEIRA

Alan Fontes' work is characterized by research into aspects of architecture in both the domestic and urban realms. In this exhibition, Fontes combines these two interests to poetically investigate the region surrounding the CCBB.
Cartography produces analytical tools capable of assisting in locating oneself or others in relation to space. The artist used satellite images, archival images, and images produced during journeys through the region, all generated at different times, to represent this fragment of the center of the river, experimentally expanding cartographic representation and generating a work permeated not only by spatial data, but also by the temporal dimension, thus reflecting the constant transience of the urban structure.

Additionally, Fontes created a domestic-looking environment composed of objects found on the streets of this region. The gray color with which they were coated removes them from the realm of objects of practical use and transforms them into an index of private life. The juxtaposition of studying the city from the sky and archives with the investigation of everyday existence, closer to the pains and passions of those who live in the same region, creates a palimpsest of times and versions that gives visualization to the fact that every representation corresponds to a fiction related to the specific ideological interests of its agent. Furthermore, Alan Fontes reminds us that we must constantly learn original ways of seeing and that everything in the world is capable of producing meaning to help us locate ourselves in space and time.
